What can you do in the face of
persistent discrimination?
Maybe you’ve tried convincing yourself you must be misunderstanding, or even imagining things.Â
❌ You are not.
Maybe you’ve politely raised the subject with others, only to be told, “Stop being so sensitive,” as though the problem is all in your mind.
❌ It isn’t.
Maybe you’ve found yourself withdrawing from colleagues, keeping to yourself as much as you can, hoping—even unconsciously—you might get relief that lasts.
❌ It won’t.
There is a better solution.
Or, more accurately…
There is a better problem to solve.
What Is “The Better Problem”...
And How Does Finding & Solving It
Benefit Both You & Your Work Context?
A better problem is...
👉One you can solve yourself—using your own intelligence, skills, and resources.
👉One you can enlist others in helping you solve—without becoming dependent on them to solve for you.
👉One that opens a path to a positive outcome you truly desire.
👉One that improves your work unit’s productivity even as it also improves equity and inclusion in your workplace.
Take the CoursesCan you see how looking for the better problem radically reframes the very real problem of discrimination?
It’s not about reducing the issue to one of who’s in the right (you) and who’s in the wrong (the people discriminating against you)—an assessment that is accurate, but is unlikely to effect any positive, lasting changes.
Rather, reframing the problem is a process for…
- Identifying your true goals
- Understanding the context keeping you from reaching them
- Developing a concrete, doable plan for moving forward that benefits both you and those around you
Seeing and solving the better problem gives you and your colleagues a way forward to a true “win-win” situation.

Meet Dr. Frank Douglas
Transform the Discrimination You Face Into Positive, Permanent Change
I’m Dr. Frank Douglas.
Today, I’m a former, award-winning executive and member of the Board of Management of a Top 5 Global Pharmaceutical Company.
I led teams of scientists who innovated and/or brought to market more than 25 drugs for cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and arthritis.
I received the 2007 Black History Maker Award. I was recognized as a Geoffrey Beene Foundation and GQ Magazine Rockstar of Science in 2010.
But more than 40 years ago, I was a newly minted PhD not given the chance in three months, one of my White colleagues was given in their first week on the job.
That’s right: During my first three months, I didn’t get a single meaningful assignment.
But when a young White man joined the staff, he was immediately placed on the most important, highest-profile project.
I was not happy when confronted with such overt discrimination.
At the time, I was furious. That’s no small part of the reason I left to go earn my M.D.Â
But as I looked back on that incident later, I realized I’d missed some important things… things that might have helped me respond differently and achieve outcomes I genuinely wanted.
Because as satisfying as it might have felt at the moment, I wasn’t actually interested in seeing the company’s senior V.P. give my boss a tough talking-to.
I didn’t even have my heart set on being assigned the specific project my White co-worker was assigned.
I simply wanted a good project—one that would allow me to demonstrate how my PhD training and talent could benefit my work unit and my organization.
I wanted to be fully included and treated fairly.
What I needed back then but didn’t yet have was a way to reframe the problem.Â
But in the years that followed, I developed just such a reframing process.
I’ve written about this process.Â
I’ve taught it to several of my direct reports who worked with me as mid-level and senior leaders in the pharmaceutical industry.           Â
And now, in my online course, I’ll be showing this process to YOU.

👟Show others how to “walk in your shoes.”
Helping others see and empathize with your experience of discrimination is essential for effecting true change. My process gives you tools for doing so that won’t spark defensiveness or resentment instead.
👩‍💼Nurture goodwill among your colleagues.Â
The solutions in my course not only gets you to your desired outcome but also creates goodwill among your workmates.  When dealing with discrimination improves the work environment for everyone, it’s less likely bias and bigotry will be a factor for you, or anyone else in your organization.
